The Rangers Story
Supporting Rangers is about more than matchdays. It's about identity, history and belonging. From Kelvingrove Park to Glasgow Green to Ibrox, generations have built one of Scottish football's most recognisable supporter cultures. Rangers Football Club was founded in March 1872 by four young men who shared a passion for the emerging game of association football. Brothers Moses and Peter McNeil, together with Peter Campbell and William McBeath, discussed forming a football club while walking through West End Park — now Kelvingrove Park — in Glasgow. Their ambition would grow into one of the most historic clubs in British football. Rangers played their first match in May 1872 against Callander at Fleshers' Haugh on Glasgow Green, a goalless friendly draw. After playing at various grounds across Glasgow, including Kinning Park and the original Ibrox ground from 1887, the club moved to the site of today's Ibrox Stadium in 1899. Rangers were also among the 11 founding members of the Scottish Football League in 1890. Ibrox has been the club's home on its present site since 1899. The famous Main Stand, designed by renowned stadium architect Archibald Leitch, opened in 1929 and remains one of British football's most distinctive architectural landmarks. The stadium underwent extensive redevelopment during the twentieth century and was officially renamed Ibrox Stadium in 1997.
With a listed capacity of 50,817, Ibrox is one of Scotland's largest football grounds. Its red-brick Main Stand, historic entrance and towering stands are recognised by generations of supporters. The Culture In The Detail
The Chants & Anthems: Follow Follow — one of the most recognisable songs associated with Rangers supporters, with roots in the nineteenth-century hymn Follow On. Generations of supporters have made it part of the atmosphere at Ibrox and away grounds across Scotland and Europe.
Then there's Every Other Saturday, another familiar part of Rangers' musical tradition, alongside the songs and chants that fill Ibrox before kick-off. The singing, scarves and shared rituals are part of what makes following Rangers an identity passed between generations.

Three Moments That Define It
1. March 1872, West End Park to Glasgow Green — Four young men with a dream of forming a football club. From Kelvingrove Park to the first match against Callander at Fleshers' Haugh, Rangers' beginnings were rooted in Glasgow's public parks and the enthusiasm of the game's earliest players. The year 1872 remains one of the most important dates in the club's identity.
2. Ibrox Since 1899 — From the original ground nearby in 1887 to the present stadium opened in 1899, Ibrox has been central to Rangers' history for well over a century. The famous Archibald Leitch Main Stand opened in 1929, and the ground has evolved through generations of redevelopment. Today, Ibrox has a listed capacity of 50,817. 3. Follow Follow — A Supporter Tradition — From its roots in a nineteenth-century hymn to its place in Rangers' matchday culture, Follow Follow has become one of the club's best-known supporter songs. Sung at Ibrox and wherever Rangers travel, it represents the loyalty, tradition and sense of belonging shared by generations of supporters.
